Improv and the Law
Originally Recorded: September 26, 2023
Description: Improv comedy and oral arguments have significant overlap. The skills improvisers use onstage to build a spontaneous piece of theater are also useful to attorneys: nimble decision-making, listening intently while memorizing new information, talking off-the-cuff while thinking strategically, staying focused amid chaos, trusting one’s instincts in the moment, and trusting one's preparation for the unexpected.
Learn from veteran improv coach and comic Liz Allen how to take advantage of improv strategies to improve your oral advocacy. Ms. Allen has worked with former U.S. Solicitor General Neal Katyal and other accomplished attorneys, and will cover some of the advantages and benefits of studying improv shared by these attorneys. .
