Attorney General’s Office and Chippewa County Attorney’s Office secure convictions for 27 counts of criminal sexual conduct and stalking
Jury convicts Jacory Dante McCalpin of all charges following multiple sexual and physical assaults between July 2022 and December 2023
April 28, 2026 (SAINT PAUL) — On Friday, April 24, after a one-week jury trial, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s office secured convictions of Jacory Dante McCalpin on all 27 charges — including 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct and stalking — following a series of sexual and physical assaults that occurred from July 2022 to December 2023. The jury also found aggravating facts on 21 counts.
For two and a half years, McCalpin sexually and physically assaulted the victim. McCalpin regularly recorded the assaults and used the videos as blackmail to force the victim to perform additional sex acts.
The court will sentence McCalpin on June 2.
Attorney General Ellison’s office prosecuted McCalpin upon a referral from Chippewa County Attorney Matthew Haugen under Minnesota Statutes section 8.01, which provides, “Upon request of the county attorney, the attorney general shall appear in court in such criminal cases as the attorney general deems proper.” The authority vested in the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office is primarily civil. Aside from referrals submitted under section 8.01 and Medicaid fraud, the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office does not have prosecuting authority over most criminal acts. That authority generally rests with city and county attorneys.
“McCalpin committed horrific crimes over a long period of time,” Attorney General Ellison said. “I am glad we could secure justice for the victim: my thoughts are with her and I hope this conviction is a meaningful step in her healing. I’m very grateful for the partnership of the Chippewa County Attorney and his office and the cooperation between us that led us to win this conviction.”
Attorney General Ellison thanks the Montevideo Police Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, who assisted in the investigation and successful prosecution of this crime.
