Statewide Expungement Program

Name of the organization and description: Minnesota Attorney General’s Office (AGO). The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Minnesota. The AGO provides legal representation to over 100 state agencies, boards, and commissions and represents the State of Minnesota in state and federal court and administrative hearings.

Title of Position: Student Extern – Spring 2025 (remote)

Duties and Responsibilities:
The AGO initiated a Statewide Expungement Program to help people request to seal criminal records without going to court, hiring a lawyer, or paying a filing fee.  The AGO website hosts an internet portal (Helpsealmyrecords.org) where people can request that prior records of arrests or convictions be sealed to prevent them from being disclosed on background checks. 

The Student Extern will be working with the Statewide Expungement Program and will be assisting with reviewing applications, maintaining files, and drafting proposed orders and stipulations.

This position is unpaid

Academic Credit:
Students may earn academic credit through their Law School for this externship position. If this placement agrees to host a student for an externship the student is responsible for processing the registration themselves.
