The Public Safety Division serves an important role within the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General. Our paralegals perform meaningful work that makes a difference in the lives of Minnesotans. A paralegal in the Public Safety Division will support attorneys on a variety of state litigation and appellate cases, primarily related to implied consent and other vehicle and licensing related litigation, including drafting pleadings, assisting with discovery, interviewing witnesses, and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of formal paralegal coursework which resulted in a program certificate, associate degree, or bachelor's degree OR two years of experience working in a litigation setting as a paralegal or equivalent paraprofessional legal support position
- Knowledge of court procedures, legal terminology, legal document formatting, legal citations, electronic case management, e-filing/serving, and witness meetings
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Ability to:
- Multitask by managing an active caseload and meet tight deadlines
- Contribute positively to a team and interact effectively with clients and members of the public and work in an inclusive work environment
- Show excellent judgement, character, professionalism, and maintain confidentiality
To be considered at the Legal Assistant 6 (LA6) level applicants must have at least 6 or more years of directly related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using electronic files and case management tools including experience using SharePoint to store and edit documents.
